Messy Learning without Losing Your Mind!

This session is a book study/in-person experience after participants (over the summer) read the book, "A Meaningful Mess" by Andi McNair. This culminating event will explore strategies for engaging, experiencing and empowering today's Gen Z and Generation Alpha learners with messy learning through taking risks in the classroom, and by seeking meaning (and fun) among the mess. Participants will leave with practical applications to use alongside the NISD curriculum for the upcoming new school year. Andi McNair will be providing an online zoom with us at Engage. You will earn 6 update GT hours only after reading the book AND attending this 80-minute Engage session.

Stop! Collaborate, and Modify!
Three special education teachers and three general education teachers are partnering to share their strategies and resources for modifying work for students that receive modified curriculum. The presentation will cover the collaborative efforts that are necessary to modify work and examples of how to modify grade-level math and ELA work to a modified student's level. There will also be an activity where attendees will partner and modify work for a sample student. We will provide a sample student packet with all state and district testing data, iReady summary, and IEP to guide you through the activity. Attendees will then have the opportunity to practice modifying a grade-level assignment to present to the group, if they choose to share. We will wrap up the presentation with a question/answer session.

Tier 2 READING instruction shouldn't be hard! Come learn how to intervene and close achievement gaps. (Elementary)
Not enough time in the day? Not sure how to keep other students focused on independent work while you're teaching small group? What about making quick, data-driven decisions? Pulling materials can also take more time than we have when we also have other lessons to plan. In this session, classroom elementary teachers will learn how to maximize their Tier 2 time when working with students who have gaps in reading. Teachers will learn to create intervention plans, create flexible groups within their class or grade level, match the plan to resources, and create student goal setting folders.
